Project Description

Quandel Construction Group was the general contractor on the 88,000 sf renovation program for the historic Wilkes-Barre Y.M.C.A. that included creating 21 modern student apartments, restructuring existing facilities and a long overdue cleaning of the building’s exterior. The student housing was created for use by local colleges.

The apartments, with a total capacity of 59 students, occupy the fourth, fifth and sixth floors of the six-story historic building. Part of the project also included renovating the front entrance and creating a dedicated entrance for residences leading into a high ceiling lobby, equipped with seating, a mail area and an adjacent leasing office.

A new fitness center now occupies the space of the former swimming pool. Locker rooms were modernized and the women’s fitness center in the basement was renovated. A new elevator and roof were also part of the project.

Extremely helpful in incorporating new features into our facility while maintaining the architecture of our existing building, Quandel delivered impressive results for a dollar amount we were able to fund. Quandel was also very professional in handling any problems which arose during construction, and their expertise was a great resource at our weekly job meetings. The new facility is helping us deliver a new level of service and comfort to all of our participants.
