Quandel Construction Group was hired as the general contractor by the City of Binghamton, NY for the for the $21.8 million solids phase portion of their Binghamton – Johnson City Joint Sewage Treatment Plant upgrade.

The plant was severely damaged in the fall of 2011 because of flooding due to tropical storm Lee. The major portions of the project include: renovating and installing new digester pumps, piping, gas conditioning equipment, gas holder covers, new sludge holding tanks, and architectural finishes at the existing digester complex. A new four-story sludge cast in place concrete solids processing building will be built. This will house new centrifuges, sludge pumps, chemical storage and feed equipment, lime stabilization and loadout conveyance, and all associated piping. There will be renovations to the existing headhouse with a new bacteriologic lab and associated equipment installed, along with new gravity sludge thickeners with associated pumps, piping, and chemical storage and feed equipment. Two gravity thickener pump stations will be renovated as well.
