As Construction Manager, J. Vinton Schafer Construction plays a pivotal role in bringing the Civic Plaza project to life as part of the Maryland Stadium Authority’s Blue Line Corridor initiative. Partnering with Design Collective, we are leading the design-build team to ensure that the project’s vision is translated into a thoughtfully executed civic space that meets the community’s needs. Acting as an extension of the project team, we provide comprehensive oversight throughout the design-build process, ensuring that vision and execution align seamlessly.
Our responsibilities include managing project design coordination, budget and schedule control, and construction oversight. We implement rigorous quality assurance and safety protocols, integrate sustainable building practices, and coordinate closely with stakeholders to achieve project goals. In addition, we emphasize transparent communication and community engagement to ensure the project reflects and supports the needs of residents.
The scope of work transforms the existing parking lot of the Wayne K. Curry Administration Building into a vibrant civic space that will serve as a year-round community destination. The Civic Plaza is designed to include a performance lawn and stage for large gatherings, a children’s playground, an outdoor game area, an art walk with integrated seating, a butterfly garden, and an enclosed dog park. With flexible spaces to accommodate both everyday visits and large-scale festivals, the project creates a dynamic environment that promotes connection, recreation, and cultural expression.
When complete, Civic Plaza will be a transformative urban space that underscores our commitment to high-quality civic infrastructure—strengthening community identity, fostering economic vitality, and enhancing the quality of life for Prince George’s County.
