Project Name
New PK-6 Elementary
Location
Middletown, OH
Project Description
Madison Local School District selected Quandel to complete a 101,258 square foot PK-6 building to tie into the existing high school.
Unique features of this two-year project included load-bearing CMU walls, EPDM and asphalt shingle roof, structural steel, two parking lots and two playgrounds, ice storage system, landscaping, short-throw projectors and a new concession area.
Special challenges included: poor soil conditions which the team coordinated with geo-technical engineers and the Owner to insure no damage of future pavement, a level change at the tie-in point of the new to existing school which required special shoring as not to damage the structure. The existing stairwell in this area had to be completely re-built over the summer and ready for use when students returned. Contractors had to be coordinated to work overtime to achieve this goal, and the concession area at the stadium was completed and up and running by the start of the first home game. The project team worked diligently to insure that everything was operative for this event.
