Project Description
The new Commonwealth School of Medicine is a 3-story 185,000 square foot structure designed to meet the current needs of today’s medical students. The project contains the most technically advanced laboratories such as a Gross Anatomy Laboratory, Vivarium Laboratory and Bio-Informatics laboratories. In addition, there are a number of teaching skills and clinical skill classrooms along with two lecture halls and a full service of student services such as lounge areas and food service areas.
The building’s structure is a combination of structural steel and concrete along various types of foundations systems to support the difficult soils conditions caused by deep mining. The building’s facade is a combination of metal panel, glass curtain wall, natural stone and black granite.
The building has been certified as Silver LEED Certification.
