BCPS Red House Run Elementary School Ribbon Cutting

Mar 11, 2024 | J. Vinton Schafer, News

Red House Run

In a momentous occasion for education and community development, J. Vinton Schafer Construction proudly joined the Baltimore County Public Schools at the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony of Red House Run Elementary School. The event marked the culmination of a collaborative effort aimed at addressing overcrowding issues and ushering in a new era of modern learning environments.

About Red House Run Elementary School

Red House Run Elementary School stands as a beacon of educational excellence nestled within the vibrant community of Baltimore County. Serving as a cornerstone for academic achievement, the school embodies a commitment to nurturing young minds and fostering a love for learning. With a rich history and a dedication to innovation, Red House Run Elementary is more than just a place of education—it’s a home away from home for students and staff alike.

Relieving Overcrowding, Creating Opportunities

The need for the Red House Run Elementary School project arose due to the existing school’s overcrowding, surpassing its capacity by more than one hundred students. To address this issue, temporary classrooms had been utilized to accommodate the overflow. J. Vinton Schafer Construction provided construction management services for the demolition of the existing school and the subsequent construction of a replacement school.

The new replacement school, designed to be larger, significantly increased student capacity by more than three hundred, eliminating the necessity for temporary classrooms in the future. With a capacity for 785 students, the new elementary school was a crucial addition to meet the growing enrollment demands in the area.

Our Role: Guiding the Project to Success

Functioning as an extension of the Baltimore County Public Schools (BCPS) facilities team, our role involved providing comprehensive support. This encompassed conducting detailed constructability reviews, outlining prime scopes in detail, developing the project schedule, and creating a phasing plan. Throughout the construction process, we managed multiple primes, ensuring adherence to the project schedule, monitoring LEED requirements, and overseeing construction activities.

Our commitment extended to aiding BCPS in project procurement, coordinating and facilitating administrative functions related to the project, and providing assistance with site management. This collaborative effort aimed to successfully deliver a state-of-the-art replacement school, meeting the educational needs of the community and contributing to the enhancement of Baltimore County Public Schools’ facilities.

Looking Ahead: A Bright Future for Baltimore County Public Schools

As we celebrate the completion of the Red House Run Elementary School project, we look forward to continuing our partnership with the Baltimore County Public School district. Together, we remain committed to building better communities through education, empowering future generations, and creating spaces where students can thrive.
