Through careful planning and time-efficient construction phasing, Quandel was able to successfully complete the project with minimal disruption to ongoing activity within the YMCA. Renovations included new men’s and women’s fitness centers, a new daycare, new college dormitory spaces, and a new cardiovascular center. The facility’s new addition includes an Olympic-sized swimming pool and gymnasium.
A new fitness center now occupies the space of the former swimming pool. Locker rooms were modernized and the women’s fitness center in the basement was renovated. A new elevator and roof were also part of the project as was the installation of a new air conditioning system.
Opened as a YMCA in October 1934, the building, which houses the Greater Wilkes-Barre YMCA, is located in the center of downtown Wilkes-Barre, PA.

Extremely helpful in incorporating new features into our facility while maintaining the architecture of our existing building, Quandel delivered impressive results for a dollar amount we were able to fund. Quandel was also very professional in handling any problems which arose during construction, and their expertise was a great resource at our weekly job meetings. The new facility is helping us deliver a new level of service and comfort to all of our participants.
