East County Road was the replacement of an existing culvert with a pre-cast ConTech arch culvert. Due to unknown depth of rock in the area, project was designed utilizing cast in place footers and pedestals. Arch culvert and wing walls were placed on CIP footer and pedestals. Culvert and wing walls were then grouted into pedestal channel. Culvert joints were waterproofed and entire structure backfilled with No. 57 stone. Structure backfill was capped with No. 2A subbase and bituminous base and wearing courses. In order to perform needed excavation of existing structure and construction of new footers and pedestals, a diversion pipe was installed in the center of existing stream. This diversion conveyed stream flow through construction area allowing new work to be completed in mostly dry conditions. Diversion removed and stream restored to previous stream restored to previous stream bed prior to placing arch. Project also included RIP-RAP scour protection around wings and along stream banks, guiderail installation, line painting and relocation of a drain pipe for neighbor’s property.
