Quandel was the general contractor for the Wilkes-Barre facility. This facility serves the northeastern United States for the Sallie Mae Company, a Washington, D.C.-based provider of student loans. The structure, part one-story and part two-story, features a vaulted ceiling in the atrium section and a two-color terrazzo floor in the lobby.
Morrow said Quandel construction was one of eight firms invited to bid on the project, which was to be a prototype for centers throughout the country. Sallie Mae chose Quandel based on the firm’s competitive price, oral presentation, and recommendations from other clients. “This was a test. Quandel was put under a microscope and they did a very good job. The project went very well. It was completed on time and within budget. Quandel had lots of ideas to save money and do things more efficiently. Throughout Quandel was very professional and very efficient. They did a good job of managing things up front. There were no surprises.”
