The Schuylkill River Trail Bridge project consisted of construction of a new 115’ span concrete adjacent box beam on new concrete abutments. This section of the Schuylkill River Trail previously crossed SR-724 at a busy intersection that also featured a blind turn. The newly constructed bridge will allow the trail users to now cross safely above traffic. The new construction also included elimination of the blind turn and increased the sight distance in all directions.
Some additional features of the project include architectural facing on the new abutments, mechanical stabilized earth retaining walls on all four wings of the bridge, staining of the new concrete to match local rock formations, paving of trail and a full canopy over the entire new bridge.
