Our firm provided construction management at-risk (CMAR) services for the new construction of the School of Public Policy building at UMCP. This project constructed a new 77,000 gross square foot building that provides offices to house 109 full-time and 30 part-time faculty and staff and 65 graduate/teaching/research assistants, five state of-the-art instructional rooms ranging in sizes from 25 to 150 seats, computer labs, a library/study room, and lounge space. Despite the delays due to funding and the pandemic supply chain, we managed to keep the project on schedule. Managing the owner’s changes throughout this project was challenging to keep in budget. Our estimator were put to the test with value engineering options since this project’s inception. This building received LEED gold certification. This building was originally called the School of Public Policy. The school had a name dedication in February changing this to Thurgood Marshall Hall in honor of the legendary Thurgood Marshall who was he first Supreme Court’s first African American justice. Dedicating this hall takes us one step closer to having a more inclusive community.

I am pleased with JVS’ communication throughout this project. The team held many meetings and were available for discussion for issues or concerns that needed to be addressed. Thank you for providing UMCP with a dedicated group of individuals. I look forward to working with them on future projects. I would be pleased to recommend JVS for any future projects on our campus.
