J. Vinton Schafer Construction believes in giving back to the community and promoting career opportunities for the next generation. Recently, two of our team members, Senior Superintendent Davon Reaves, and Assistant Project Manager, Daniel Fickenscher, visited Hammond High School’s Career Fair to share their knowledge and expertise in the field of construction.
During the event, we showcased the essential “tools of the trade” used in construction and explained their significance in construction. One of the tools we highlighted was the transit level, an optical instrument with a built-in spirit level that is mounted on a tripod. Our team explained to the students that transit levels are primarily used for surveying and building, but they also play a crucial role in establishing reference lines and obtaining precise measurements of angles and elevations on construction sites. We were also able to demonstrate the practical application of the transit level by using it to obtain survey points for manhole elevations.
