Women in Construction Week

Mar 10, 2021 | Pyramid Construction

To celebrate Women in Construction (WIC) Week we aim to raise awareness of the opportunities available for women in the construction industry and to emphasize the growing role of women in the industry. We took time to hear from one of our own colleagues to here about her career in the construction industry.

Tell us how you got into construction and what kind of training/ education/ previous work experience brought you here?

My previous experience was working for a manufacturing company of residential elevators. I was looking for a change and the opportunity presented itself. I took the leap and have not looked back.

Tell us a little about your position now and what an average day for you is like at Pyramid.

I am an Assistant Project Manager, I review submittals, review drawings, visit job sites, attend meetings, work with the project team to accomplish our goals.

What do you like most about Project Management?

I love the people I meet and the different projects.

What do you find challenging about Project Management?

Some projects can be challenging, as far as shape or how to get the job done.

Tell us a little about your most exciting/challenging project to date.

My most exciting project was The Salvation Army Building in Harrisburg,  my first larger out of the ground project from start to finish and it was amazing to see the progression, even “behind the scenes”, and the project team was awesome!

Some studies show that less than 10% of the construction workforce is made up of women. Do you foresee this number changing in the future?

I hope the number changes in the future. I love going onto a job site and seeing women in the field for various trades.

What traits does a person need to be successful in the construction industry?

Great customer service, problem solver, honest and hardworking.

What would be your advice be to a young woman who is starting out on the path to a career in Construction.

Have confidence, help be the problem-solver and voice your opinions, and ask questions. Surround yourself with people who support you and your goals.
